Quentin Grimes Selected as
NBA First-Round Draft Pick

Former University of Houston basketball guard Quentin Grimes made national headlines when the New York Knicks selected him as the No. 25 overall first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Grimes is the first UH player drafted in the first round since 1987 and one of only 12 in the University’s history.

Last season, Grimes helped lead the Cougars to the NCAA Final Four – the team’s first appearance since 1984 – and to a 28-4 overall record. Grimes is the first Cougar to receive All-America honors of any kind since 1999, including third-team recognition from the Associated Press, National Association of Basketball Coaches, Sporting News and United States Basketball Writers Association.

In football news, the New Orleans Saints drafted former UH defensive end Payton Turner during the first round of the NFL draft. UH has had four first-round NFL selections since 2013, the most of any school in the American Athletic Conference.
