Fitness at Your Fingertips

Recharge your mind and body with UH Recreation and Wellness.

Physical activity plays a vital role in wellbeing and overall quality of life. Even small amounts of movement can help relieve the daily stressors of life’s challenges.

Research shows that exercising consistently can boost your energy, mood, improve sleep quality and enhance focus, all of which directly impact how we function throughout each day.

Through the University of Houston, employees have access to a variety of workshops, wellness programming and partnerships that encourage movement and mindfulness for every interest, helping you discover the perfect fit to add into your routine.

If you’re looking for a way to get started or stay active, UH Wellness offers valuable resources for all faculty and staff. Wellness Director Brittani Clarkson said the program provides opportunities to challenge yourself and connect with others across campus.

“Showing up consistently builds trust and winning small victories for yourself creates momentum for motivation,” Clarkson said. “Intentional movement can help create an opportunity to reset and refocus in a busy environment.”

The UH Wellness Center is a chill, welcoming space where faculty, staff and students can take a break, hang out or reset. With cozy seating, calming vibes and student artwork, it’s designed to help you relax and feel at home on campus. Learn more here.

After long hours at a desk or in front of a screen, movement becomes especially important for mental health, offering a chance to recharge and step away from daily pressures.

Employees can also take advantage of the University’s Fitness Release Time policy, which allows up to 30 minutes of leave, three times per week, to participate in approved fitness activities.

In addition to regular classes, employees are invited to attend "Unwind With Wellness on Wednesdays" or participate in the "Wellness at Folly" series presented in partnership with Public Art UH System and campus recreation. The free, immersive series runs throughout March and April and is open to faculty, staff, students and visitors.

Austin Lewis, recreation program director, said these programs are designed for all experience levels.

"Whether you're just beginning your fitness journey and want guidance through personal training or looking for relaxation through sound meditation, there’s something for everyone," Lewis said. "Being active in the UH community is a great way to show Cougar pride."
