The University of Houston is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2027 by launching a bold and transformative effort to reimagine its historic campus core. The Centennial Construction Project, beginning June 1, 2025, will create a more welcoming, walkable and resilient campus for generations to come.

With an emphasis on community, connectivity and sustainability, the project will modernize key spaces at the heart of campus: University Drive, Centennial Plaza and Wilhelmina’s Grove. These enhancements will strengthen the student experience, foster interdisciplinary collaboration and reinforce UH’s role as a hub for innovation and cultural engagement in Houston.

University Drive Closure

As part of the initial phase, University Drive west of Martin Luther King Boulevard will close to all vehicular traffic beginning June 1. The closure is expected to remain in place through 2026. While vehicles will be restricted, pedestrian access — including ADA-compliant pathways — will be maintained throughout the project.

Visitor parking in the Welcome Center Garage will remain open and unaffected. Campus shuttles will continue to operate, with pick-up and drop-off at the Welcome Center North Garage.
